The Day You Were Born Box
Children love to hear stories about their real birthdays: The night of the terrible ice storm! That look on Grandma's face! Now that your baby isn't a baby anymore, take a free evening and sort your memorabilia -- and memories -- into a collection of themed boxes: the birth story, the pregnancy, the news of the day, and so on. Our project is the ultimate in versatility. You can make it as big or as small as you like, depending on how many themes you want to include, then decorate with anything from simple stamps and photos to drawings and collages. And the oversize box easily accommodates mementos of almost any shape or size. We like to think of it as a sort of interactive baby album your child can help create. Sure, he may roll his eyes as you press that tiny baby bootie to your cheek -- but maybe one day he'll know exactly how you feel.
Decorating the Boxes The lid of each box should signal what's inside. For our largest box, we used Mod Podge to attach a birth announcement and card-stock photocopies of photographs (to preserve the originals). We used Fabric Mod Podge to add ribbon trim. For the smaller, interior boxes, we labeled some with stamps and stickers and for others used Mod Podge to attach photos, a map, newspaper clippings, and more. Tip: Check the scrapbooking section of your craft store for baby-themed accessories.
THE BIRTH STORY
This multimedia collection is devoted to Mom and Dad's birth day memories. Inside, you might include:THE PREGNANCY
Kids are fascinated by details of their life in your tummy, so give them a peek at what it was like when you were expecting. You might include:SMALL THINGS
Your little person had very little things! Fit a few tiny boxes inside a larger one and fill them with the bitty bits and pieces of newborn life:WHAT'S IN A NAME
You didn't settle on your child's name lightly, so make sure he has the full story of how and why it made the cut. You could include:THE NEWS OF THE DAY
Lots of interesting things were happening around the world that day. In this box you might include:BIG BROTHERS AND SISTERS
They may have had mixed feelings about the actual event ("She looks like a prune!"), but surely time has softened the edges of their recall. Let a sibling decorate his or her own box and fill it with:THE GRANDPARENTS
If anyone's as dotty with love for your child as you are, it's his doting grandparents. Mail a box to each set, asking them to decorate it, fill it with their own memories and memorabilia, and send it back to you. You might suggest they include:AUNTS, UNCLES, AND COUSINS
Send another batch of boxes to these baby-lovers for them to decorate and fill (an especially fun job for older cousins who remember the birth). They might include:HIS HOMETOWN
When he's older, your child will likely love a snapshot in time of his birthplace, especially if you've since moved away. Consider including:NOTES AND DOCUMENTS
Cards and papers too large to fit in other boxes get their own folder that can nestle underneath all the rest. You might include copies of:Alphabet Photo Book
Take a pic with something starting with each letter
in alphabet, then make a book on Shutterfly.--do this for 1st bday
Marriage Survival Kit
Marriage Survival Tool Kit
I had a lot of fun putting this Marriage Survival Tool Kit together. This was for a wedding gift but the idea could be used for an anniversary, or Valentines gift. I would modify some of the sayings if it was to that special someone rather than to that special couple.
Here is what I put in the Marriage Survival Tool Kit - along with the sayings.....
Tape Measure - Love beyond Measure
Tape - Stick Together
Nails - Build your relationship every day
( I was going to put a hammer with this but the tool box I bought didn't let it fit)
Assorted Household Hardware Accessories
(little things like picture hangers and tacks)-
Remember the big things are the little things
Mini Screwdrivers - If a screw is loose, tighten it
Level - Find balance in your marriage. Love on the level
Glue - Establish a divine bond
And of course a tool kit....
I found some marriage advice to go with all the sayings as well. I printed out tags
(find a copy below) and cut out a tag with the marital advice the same
size of the other tags and placed them on the opposite side.
Here is the marriage advice that went with the tape measure:
“Are you willing to search within
yourself for the character required to make Your marriage work? All our
relationships follow the contours of life; they have ups and downs. This
is why our families provide a critical measure of our character—and the opportunity, again and again to nurture it.”
Stephen R. Covey

Toilet Paper Roll Box
Toilet Paper Roll Box
Step 1: Retrieve an empty toilet paper roll (hopefully, you won't have to go at the bottom of the garbage can to get it!)
Step 2: Flatten the roll using a bone folder for a crisp edge. I think a ruler would do the trick too.
Step 3: Using a round object such as a template cutter or a lid, trace a curve using a pointy object or your bone folder. This will help to fold the ends.
Step 4: Repeat the same on each ends on both sides.
Step 5: Cut a piece of paper the same width as the roll and long enough to go all the way around it. This is a great way to use your scraps.
Step 6: Apply a strong adhesive to one side of the roll. Make sure to put some along the ends.
Step 7: Carefully line up paper, adhere. Next, add adhesive to the other side of the roll and wrap the paper around. Secure the last flap with adhesive and adhere.
Step 8: With a finger, push in one end of the roll.
Step 9: Repeat step 8 with all the folds and your pillow box is all done.
This pillow box is a perfect size for gift certificate, money or jewelery.
You can add a ribbon (as in the first image) or a big flower to give it a finished touch.
I hope you enjoy this!
